Sorrow and Joy was recorded over the course of three weeks in November 2022. It documents me and my uncle in conversation, at the family farm where he still lives. We are talking about his life and the history of the place, while writing a semi-fictional theatrical scene based on our converstation. The film ends with him performing the scene, while walking around the property. A monologue of joy and sorrow relating to the place. A peripheral place in Medelpad, Sweden, affected by the usual problems of a dwindling population and the sense that the future is elsewhere. But also a beautiful place, where generations have lived there lives. A place both me and him care about.
